 Social media has become an integral part of modern relationships, offering both benefits and challenges to marriages. While it can strengthen connections, it can also expose couples to public scrutiny, infidelity triggers, and misunderstandings. This write-up explores whether social media is a curse or a blessing to marriages, using the high-profile cases of Nigerian celebrities Tuface Idibia & Annie Macaulay (Natasha), and Yul Edochie & Queen May as key references.

The Blessings of Social Media in Marriages
📌The social media can be very beneficial for couples as it enhances communication and bonding. Couples can stay connected through messaging, video calls, and shared posts. Social media allows for public displays of affection (PDA), reinforcing love and commitment e.g., Tuface and Annie’s anniversary posts.
📌Financial and Career Opportunities: Influencer couples monetize their relationships (brand endorsements, reality shows). Yul Edochie and Queen May leveraged their relationship for business growth and it was worth the while until.......
📌Support & Relationship Advice: Online communities provide marriage counseling and motivational content. For instance, some couples share their love stories in ways that are inspiring to others.

The Curses of Social Media in Marriages

📌The Public Scrutiny and  Pressure associated with social media can never be over emphasized. Tuface and Annie Macaulay's drama is a very good example. Social media amplified their marital issues, with fans taking sides and fueling controversies. Similarly, Yul Edochie Polygamy announcement had a detrimental effect on his relationship with his wife Queen May. The backlash affected their public image and family dynamics which has persisted for a very long time and doesn't seem like coming to an end soon.
📌 Private messages and comments online has become a catalyst for infidelity and distrust. Easy access to ex-partners or new romantic interests sliding into DM's to send private messages and make flirty comments is a common phenomenon among couples that most times can lead to suspicion. 

📌 Furthermore, miscommunication, fake news and sometimes, misinterpreted posts can result to conflicts between couples .e.g., liking an ex’s photo. False rumors spread like wild fire, damaging reputations while sometimes, others face online bullying.

Case Study Analysis

📌 Tuface Idibia and Annie Macaulay was an example of what proper love should be, taking into cognizance the openly declared love by Tuface and the crafting of the ever green music titled African queen for his beloved Diva Annie Macaulay. Infact, that song was synonymous to a love anthem and was usually used to reveal ones feelings to their partners. This continued until the African queen crooner found another African Queen from Benin Kingdom (Natasha). Tuface was not psychologically powerful enough to have two African Queens so he had to leave the first and cling to the new found Lollipop.
While Annie was heartbroken, the love story with his newest queen was celebrated online by the celebrity while his newly found African Queen faced lots of backlash from fans and followers of her new found love. Who says a man or a lady can only fall in love once🤷? While the public found it difficult to come in between the two love birds, they gave up and decided to let them be. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, the social media curse surfaced. An online video rumoured to be the new African Queen rudely addressing her man and a rumoured quarrel in a podcast they were both present was enough to cause an online stir. It's been lashes and backlashes on these two couples online. 

📌 In the case of Yul and Queen May, their relationship was the envy of their online and offline family. Their relationship gained massive followership, increasing their influence. Until Yul found another irresistible apple of his eyes synonymous  to when Adam first met Eve. Yul loved this apple to the marrow, he fancied her tickle and fortunately for him, she tickled his fancy..out of nowhere, boom! On and on rang the wedding bells. The wedding  announcement caused a social media storm, with his newly found Eve facing endless cyberbullying and body shaming. The question for those scrutinizing these couples online is simple: What is their concern?...is it their responsibility to dictate to adults how he or she chooses to live his or her life?.. and with whom they choose to live with?🤷

📌How Couples Can Balance Social Media Use
Couples can set boundaries by avoiding airing their dirty laundry online. They can also choose between keeping their intimate issues private or going public. Regularly updating followers on what's happening in the life of celebrities comes with a lot of ups and downs, therefore, couples should be able to compare and contrast the pros and cons, and then make their decision.
Finally, couples should learn to be transparent and trust each other.They should also be able to discuss their social media habits to prevent misunderstandings.
(Note: If you don't turn on the lighter in the midst of an inflammable material, nothing will surely get burnt)
Social media is a double-edged sword—it can strengthen or break marriages depending on usage. While it offers connection and opportunities, it also brings toxicity and pressure. The trending issues of the above listed couples shows that without caution, social media can turn from a blessing into a curse. Therefore,  exercise caution.
